Our Story

Our Story

Lillian and Josh met at a bar in Hell’s Kitchen in August 2011. It was the birthday celebration for one of Lillian’s college roommates from UNC (Lizzie – one of the bridesmaids), who happened to work with Josh. Given it was a school night, Lillian had planned to go home early but Josh invited her to go to a second bar in the West Village, the same neighborhood where they now live, and Lillian couldn’t refuse. This was the start of many adventures together. Their first official date was at Hearth in the East Village and since then many romantic and fun dates have followed. In the past few years, they’ve become parents to the legendary GusGus, traveled to six continents together, and gotten to know each other’s family and friends and begun to introduce them to each other. They are so excited that July will provide the opportunity to bring all of their favorite people together!

In May 2015, Lillian, Josh and GusGus were in Amagansett for Memorial Day weekend and Lillian had the idea of taking a walk on Atlantic Avenue Beach. It was cold, so after putting on sweaters and jackets, they set off for the beach. Wearing a bulky sweater had the benefit of making it easy for Josh to hide an engagement ring. After walking by the sand dunes alongside the ocean, Josh gave in and proposed after years of teasing that Lillian should be the one to ask!

About Us

About Us

Lillian

Born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina, Lillian grew up a Tarheel and attended UNC-Chapel Hill. Go Heels! She moved to NYC immediately following graduation to work at a PR firm that specializes in representing museums and cultural institutions. At the time she thought she’d be here for 4 years (you know, 4 years of high school, 4 years of college, 4 years of NYC…) but she met Josh and she’s now been here more than 7 years and is not going anywhere! Well at least not permanently. Traveling is one of the things she enjoys most in life and she has a desire to experience every part of the world. Luckily this is something she and Josh have in common. Along with their love of GusGus, wine and live music--so get excited for the wedding band!

Josh

Josh grew up in Portland, Connecticut, went to boarding school at Choate, and then moved to NYC to attend NYU. He’s been here ever since, working in finance. In his spare time, Josh does triathlons (he’s an ironman!) and he’s done marathons all over the world. He is a bow tie connoisseur, an avid reader, and a talented jokester--always keeping Lillian laughing.  He is looking forward to July 2016 and hopes that everyone will enjoy Maine as much as he, Lillian, and GusGus do.

Why Maine

Why Maine

Lillian’s family has been spending time in Maine for generations. This makes more sense once you know that her dad’s side of the family is from Connecticut. Since her dad was 10 years old, the family has had an amazing old house on Orrs Island and when Lillian was only seven weeks old, her parents brought her to Maine and took her sailing on the Golden Gull (Mom, you are one brave woman!). Since then, Maine has been Lillian’s favorite place in the world. She knew that Josh was the one when he flew from London to Maine on Friday and then back to London on Monday because a work trip had been scheduled after he’d committed to visiting Orrs with her for the first time. Awwwww. We are so excited to share this special place with all of our closest family and friends!
